OnJanuary14,1909,GrandmaLuowasborntoafamilyof6Children.Shemarriedyoung.Soonafterthemarriage,herhusbanddiedofillness,leavingbehindtheyoungwidow,newsonandeldlyparents.Tosurvive,GrandmaLuomarriedawidower,RuxingTianwholosthiswifeinchindbirthandlefthima3-year-olddaughter.
Withthemutualeffortsexertedbythecouple,andlaterbytheirchildren,thefamilyhassurvivedbothWWIIandChineseCivilWar,politicalturmoil,andvarioushardships.Theyremainaclosely-knitandharmoniousunit.
GrandmaLuowasthekeyfigurebehindsuchamiracle.LikemanytraditionalChinesewomen,Sheneverwentouttoworkaftermarriage,becauseofherhusband'samplesalary.Withtotaldedicationtoherfamily,shefarmed,cooked,cleaned,tookcareofeldlyin-laws,andraisedmanychildrenandgrandchildren.Nomatterhowhardthetimewere,sheandherhusbandkepttheirpromisenottosellanyfamilyland,untilafter1949whenalllandseizedbythegovernment.Despiteherhusband'sreducedineasaresultofhislongillness,shewasabletoputfoodonthetableandprovidetwodaughterswithgoodeducation.Herhomewastidyandclean,andshewaswidelyknownforherbeautifultriangleZongzi(stickyricewrappedupinreedleaves).
GrandmaLuowaswiseinhersimplelifephilosophy.Hermottowastolearntobeyoungwhenonegrewold.Shegracefullyeasedintolivingarrangementswithherchildren,andspentherlast3yearsinanursinghome.Herinnocentnatureandsinceresmilecharmednursesandroommatesalike.Aftertheageof100,muchofherwhitehairturnedblack.Sheremainedactiveuntilthelasttwomonthsofherlife,whenshesufferedfromafall.
GrandmaLuowasprocededindeathbyherhusbandRuixingTianin1972andson-in-lawRushanHuangin20xx.Sheissurvivedbyher4Children:ChunmingLuoandwifeRongxianYao,RongdiTianandhusbandYouxinMa,XingdiTianandhusbandYonminSongofShanghai,andJindiTianofNewYorkandbyher10grandchildrenand10greatgrandchildren.
