Thedaysarelongandthenightsareshort,forthesungetsupearlyandgoestobedlateinsunnyJune.Itisoneofthebestandbrightestmonthsintheyear.Birdssingfromsunrisetilllongaftersunset.
Asnightfalls,oneafteranotherthebirdsstoptheirsinging,andafterafewlastsleepysounds,puttheirheadsundertheirwingstorestforanhourortwobeforebeginningagain.Theydonotallsleep,however.Whenotherbirdsaresilent,esasoftcry,then,afterafewmoments,another,louderthistime;andsoonthenightingale③pouringouthiswonderfulsong.
